The Catalan Grand Prix ended in chaos after several crashes, two red flags and many penalties changed the final MotoGP results.

Italian rider Fabio Di Giannantonio won the race for VR46 Ducati after a calm and clever ride in very difficult conditions. It was his second MotoGP victory and an important result for Ducati.

Joan Mir first crossed the line in second place and looked set to give Honda its first podium finish of the season. However, MotoGP officials later gave him a 16-second penalty because his tyre pressure was below the minimum limit allowed by the rules. After the penalty, Mir dropped from second place to 13th.

Four other riders also received tyre pressure penalties. Alex Rins, Jack Miller, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Raul Fernandez all lost positions in the final classification.

Because of the penalties, Fermin Aldeguer moved up to second place for Gresini Ducati. Francesco Bagnaia was promoted to third and finally claimed his first podium of the 2026 MotoGP season.

The race itself was very dramatic. Pedro Acosta was leading when his KTM suddenly slowed down with a technical problem. Alex Marquez crashed heavily after hitting Acosta’s bike, causing the first red flag. Marquez was taken to hospital but remained conscious.

Later, Johann Zarco crashed during another restart and the race had to be stopped again. Many riders struggled with tyre choices and pressure settings because the race distance changed after the restarts. This is believed to be one reason why so many riders broke the tyre pressure rules.

Marco Bezzecchi quietly benefited from all the drama and finished fourth for Aprilia. Fabio Quartararo finished fifth for Yamaha, while Luca Marini gave Honda another strong result in sixth place.

Many fans were unhappy with the tyre pressure penalties, especially after such a confusing and dangerous race. Some MotoGP supporters on social media said the rules ruined Mir’s best result of the year.
