Marco Bezzecchi made an impressive return to MotoGP action by topping the opening practice session for the Dutch Grand Prix at Assen. The Aprilia rider led Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin in a closely fought FP1, while Marc Marquez recovered from an early crash to finish inside the top ten.
The MotoGP field returned to action on Friday morning at Assen for the opening practice session of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend. Riders immediately took advantage of good track conditions, with lap times improving quickly during the first few minutes.
Early in the session, several riders spent time at the top of the leaderboard as teams worked through their first set-up programmes. Francesco Bagnaia was among the early pace-setters, while Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio also showed strong speed around the famous Dutch circuit.
As the session progressed, Marco Bezzecchi began to move up the order. The Aprilia rider looked confident from the moment he left the garage and steadily improved his lap times. His performance attracted attention because it was his first session back after serving a race ban and missing the previous Grand Prix weekend.
Around the halfway point of FP1, the battle for the fastest time intensified. Bagnaia remained near the top, while Martin continued to challenge the Ducati riders. Rookie Ai Ogura also impressed by consistently running among the fastest riders despite his limited MotoGP experience.

One of the key moments of the session came when Marc Marquez crashed. The championship contender lost control of his Ducati and slid into the gravel. Fortunately, he was unhurt and quickly returned to the pits. Although the incident cost him valuable track time, Marquez was later able to rejoin the session and continue working on his bike set-up.

In the final part of FP1, riders switched their focus to faster laps as they searched for the best possible position on the timesheets. Bezzecchi continued to improve and eventually produced a lap of 1:32.311s, which moved him to the top of the leaderboard. His lap proved difficult to beat as the final minutes ticked away.
Bagnaia responded but fell just 0.098 seconds short of Bezzecchi's benchmark, securing second place. Jorge Martin completed the top three after another competitive session. Fabio Di Giannantonio and Ai Ogura rounded out the top five, both delivering impressive performances throughout the morning.
Behind them, Joan Mir, Fermin Aldeguer and Maverick Viñales also enjoyed positive starts to the weekend by finishing among the leading riders. Marquez recovered from his earlier crash to secure a place inside the top ten, limiting the damage from his fall and showing strong pace despite the setback.

When the chequered flag ended the session, Bezzecchi remained fastest. It was an excellent response from the Italian rider after a difficult week away from competition. His performance gave Aprilia an encouraging start to the Dutch Grand Prix and sent a clear message to his rivals that he is ready to fight at the front once again.
