Red Bull is reportedly requesting a super licence exemption to let their junior driver Arvid Lindblad participate in F1 sessions before turning 18.

Red Bull Racing is receiving increased attention as Max Verstappen now has 11 penalty points, putting him just one point away from a potential race ban. As a result, focus has shifted to Red Bull’s reserve and junior drivers, including 17-year-old Arvid Lindblad, who is currently competing in Formula 2.

According to reliable sources, Red Bull has submitted a formal request to the FIA, asking for a special exemption that would allow Lindblad to receive a super licence before turning 18.

Although drivers must usually be 18 years old to qualify, Lindblad already meets all other requirements. He has collected enough super licence points through strong performances in junior categories, including a win in the Formula Regional Oceania Championship and a fourth-place finish in Formula 3 last year.

The age rule was introduced after Max Verstappen made his Formula 1 debut at 17 without even holding a regular driving licence. However, the FIA later added a clause that allows exceptions for young drivers who have consistently shown exceptional skill and maturity. Red Bull’s request for Lindblad is expected to be discussed next week during the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Macau.

While the request is not directly related to Verstappen’s penalty situation, it could prove important if he does receive a race ban. If the exemption is granted, Lindblad could become a realistic option for Red Bull and might even be available in time for the Canadian Grand Prix next week.
