After MotoGP’s long-awaited return to Brazil, serious track problems forced organisers to act quickly. Now, repair work is under way to make the Goiânia circuit safe for future races.
Work has started at the racing circuit in Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna in Goiânia after problems during the recent MotoGP race.
MotoGP returned to Brazil in 2026 after many years away. It was the first race in the country since 2004, and the first time bikes raced at this track since the 1980s.
However, the event did not go smoothly. Heavy rain before the race caused flooding in some areas of the circuit. Later, a hole appeared under the track surface, and parts of the asphalt started to break up.
Because of these problems, the race organisers had to make quick decisions. The sprint race on Saturday was delayed, and the main race on Sunday was made shorter just before it started.
After the race weekend, experts checked the track carefully. They found that some parts of the asphalt were damaged, mainly because of bad weather and the stress from the bikes and heat.
Now, repair work has begun. The circuit is closed while workers fix the damaged areas and improve the surface. The track will stay closed for several weeks so the new asphalt can set properly and become strong enough for racing.
These repairs are very important. MotoGP wants to keep racing in Brazil in the future, so the circuit must be safe and in good condition. If the work is successful, the track in Goiânia could become a regular stop on the MotoGP calendar again.
