George Russell insists he has “not forgotten how to drive” after being comfortably beaten by team-mate Kimi Antonelli in Miami, as the young Italian strengthened his position at the top of the championship.

George Russell delivered a measured response after a difficult Miami Grand Prix, where he finished fourth while his Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli secured victory and extended his championship lead.

Antonelli’s third consecutive win of the season has shifted momentum in the title fight, with the Italian now holding a 20-point advantage over Russell after four rounds. The performance gap between the two was particularly clear in Miami, where Antonelli took pole position and controlled the race, while Russell crossed the line over 40 seconds behind.

Despite that, Russell remains confident in his own abilities and is not overreacting to the current situation.

"I've still got confidence in myself and have also been there. I've not forgotten how to drive," he said after the race in the interview for Sky Sports F1.

"It's just a little bit of a tricky run but we are four races down, a long way to go and I think we will reassess things over the next few weeks," he added.

Russell started the season strongly, winning the opening race in Australia and taking Sprint victory in China, but has since seen Antonelli take control of the championship battle with three straight Grand Prix wins.

The Brit also pointed to Miami as a circuit that does not suit him particularly well, with its low-grip characteristics exposing weaknesses in his driving style.

Looking ahead, Russell believes the upcoming races will provide a clearer picture of where he stands in the title fight, as he aims to respond to Antonelli’s recent run of form.
