Russell takes Sprint victory in Canada after close battles with teammate Antonelli

The Sprint race took place under ideal conditions with temperatures around 19 degrees Celsius. There were no crashes and tough battles between both Mercedes drivers. Antonelli eventually finished third behind Norris and Piastri took fourth in front of both Ferrari drivers.

Many cars started the race from the pitlane and most of the cars used medium tires. Lance Stroll in Aston Martin faced some front suspension issues as the mechanics started fixing his car on the grid. Despite the problem Stroll participate in the Sprint race.

The start was calm, both Russell and Antonelli managed to keep their positions and the only overtake on Lap 1 happened on fourth position when Lewis Hamilton overtook Oscar Piastri. Russell kept the top position and drove some fastest laps.

On Lap 5 Isack Hadjar in Red Bull reported engine issue and drove to the boxes. He was there for one lap and later got back on the track to collect race data for the team.

On lap 6 Antonelli attacked Russell multiple times but wasn’t successful. When he outbroke too hard Lando Norris saw an opportunity and overtook Antonelli which later complained on the radio and demanded a penalty for his teammate.

On lap 10 Hamilton battled with Antonelli for third position but Mercedes driver kept the position while Norris had a small gap to Russell of only 0.4 seconds.

On lap 16 Pierre Gasly overtook Nico Hulkenberg and two laps later Fernando Alonso in Aston Martin retired his car.

With three laps to go there were first three cars within one second. Hulkenberg received a 10 second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage which put him on 15th place.

On final lap Antonelli tried to make a move on Norris to get the second place back but he finished third with the McLaren driver and Russell in front.
