Silverstone has offered to host a second Formula 1 race this season after two cancelled rounds left gaps in the 2026 calendar.
The home of the British Grand Prix is ready to step in and stage another event later this year following the removal of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races from their original April dates due to conflict in the Middle East. Those cancellations reduced the schedule from 24 races to 22, with no replacement rounds yet confirmed.
Formula 1 returns to action this weekend at the Miami Grand Prix after an enforced break, but uncertainty remains over whether the calendar will be expanded again later in the season. Silverstone has now made clear it would be willing to help if needed.
Managing director Stuart Pringle confirmed the circuit has already put forward an offer to host an extra race. He told Sky News: “I have offered. We stepped in during COVID, and we were able to help F1. If that would help, of course we will.
“There are numerous practicalities that need to be considered. The offer is in, they know we are here and we can move quickly if asked.”
When asked if there was room in the schedule for another event, Pringle added: “I pride myself on not having spare windows, but everything is movable in a crisis.”
Silverstone has experience of hosting two races in one season. In 2020, during the COVID-affected campaign, the circuit staged both the British Grand Prix and the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix on back-to-back weekends.
While the venue has opened the door to repeating that solution, Formula 1 has not yet made a decision on replacing the cancelled races. For now, the championship remains set for a 22-round season.
