Yuki Tsunoda was forced to exit a Red Bull Formula 1 car after a fire broke out during a demonstration run in San Francisco. The Japanese driver escaped unharmed, with the incident quickly brought under control.
Red Bull reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda experienced a dramatic moment during a Formula 1 demonstration event in San Francisco after the car he was driving caught fire. The incident happened during a show run designed to bring Formula 1 closer to fans outside traditional race venues.
Smoke was seen coming from the rear of the historic Red Bull RB7, the 2011 championship-winning car originally driven by Sebastian Vettel, shortly after Tsunoda brought the car to a stop. The Japanese driver reacted quickly, exiting the cockpit without assistance while marshals rapidly dealt with the situation. No injuries were reported.
Tsunoda currently serves as Red Bull’s reserve driver for the 2026 Formula 1 season after losing his race seat at the end of last year. Demonstration runs such as this are often part of team promotional activities.
