As the Sauber/Audi decision about the second vacant seat for the 2025 season is set to be announced soon, Valtteri Bottas gives hints about his racing future.
It has been a season full of disappointments for Valtteri Bottas as he is still set to score a point. His team Sauber is desperately last in the Constructor’s Championship, with a car that can’t compete with the rest of the grid this season.
The current Stake/Sauber team is now looking ahead to the takeover from Audi, which should be finalized in early 2025, with a hope of improvement.
Valtteri Bottas, holder of 10 race wins in F1 and mainly known for his 5-year-long partnership with Mercedes, is still one of the candidates for the 2025 Sauber/Audi seat.
The Finnish driver has shown that he is feeling optimistic about his chances to stay in Formula 1 next year, although, everything is recently suggesting that the open seat will go to Gabriel Bortoleto, a talented F2 driver and former F3 champion.
"I've been in a difficult position thanks to the performance of the car, but thank god Mattia knows what he can get from me," said Bottas, who is quoted by RacingNews365.
"That is a good thing for me and hopefully I will be here next year, the car will be a bit better and I can show a bit more."
He gave hints that he is still in the process of talking with the newly-appointed Sauber Chief Operating and Chief Technical Officer Mattia Binotto.
"It is pretty straightforward, I don't want to say more than that, but yeah, I think you've got an idea of the situation.”
"We've had lots of coffee, and are still talking, it is progressing and I am still positive, but I really shouldn't say too much.
"There are obviously many things to discuss, both parties need to be happy, but I think we're heading in the right direction.
"I know that my strength is the experience that I can bring to the team, it is the nature of the sport, but that is how it is.
"I feel like I am in a good situation at the moment, but just can't tell you much more at this point.”
Recently, Bottas has also spoken about, where he would see himself, if Formula 1 wouldn’t work out for him next year.
“I think I would have to look at all the options. It makes sense for the future, for the short term, and also for the long term, but without a doubt, I would like to race in some series,” Bottas told Motorsport Week.
“If I have to choose one now, other than Formula 1, it would be IndyCar.”
