MotoGP motogp2025season motogpbarcelona winners&losers summaries
The 2025 Catalan Grand Prix delivered drama, surprises, and a fairytale victory for Álex Márquez in front of his home fans. From Ducati’s dominance to Quartararo’s unexpected pace, and from Bagnaia’s struggles to VR46’s disappointing weekend, here are the biggest winners and losers from Barcelona.
Winner: Álex Márquez
Álex gave the fans a weekend to remember. After crashing out of the sprint while leading on Saturday, he came back on Sunday with determination. He passed his brother Marc on lap four and never looked back, winning his second MotoGP race of the season. It was an even more special win, as it came in front of his home crowd.
Loser: Fermín Aldeguer
Aldeguer’s home race ended in frustration. He crashed in the sprint, colliding with Bezzecchi, and was handed a penalty. On Sunday, he finished in 15th place. It was a cruel reminder of how fast-changing MotoGP can be.
Winner: Enea Bastianini
Bastianini finally found his rhythm with KTM Tech3. His third place on Sunday marked his first podium with the team and ended a difficult run of results. This performance could be the spark to turn his season around.
Loser: VR46
Both Di Giannantonio and Morbidelli had bad weekends. Morbidelli wiped out riders in both the sprint and the race, while Di Giannantonio had to retire from Sunday’s race. For the team, who had a podium on Saturday, it was a complete turnaround the next day.
Winner: Marc Márquez
Marc added yet another sprint victory to his record, making it 14 out of 15 this season. Though he had to settle for second on Sunday behind Álex, his consistency keeps him looking dominant and in control of the championship.
Loser: Francesco Bagnaia
Bagnaia’s title hopes took another hit. He had a poor qualifying result in 21st and couldn’t recover in the sprint. Although he managed to finish seventh on Sunday, these are not the results expected from a two-time world champion with the fastest bike on the grid.
