Aprilia has taken an important step towards the future of MotoGP by testing its new 2027 race bike for the first time. The Italian team carried out this private test at the Jerez circuit in Spain, away from the public eye, as part of its early development work.
The new bike follows the upcoming MotoGP rules for 2027. These rules will bring big changes, including smaller 850cc engines instead of the current 1000cc machines. The aim is to make racing safer and more efficient, while still keeping high performance.
Aprilia’s new prototype had already been tested in the factory and on test benches before going to the track. The team also used data from its current bike to prepare for this moment. The first laps were completed by test rider Lorenzo Savadori, who rode the machine during a private session at Jerez.
Because this was a private test, no official lap times were shared. This is normal in MotoGP, as teams often want to keep their progress secret from rivals.
The bike itself is still in an early stage of development. Engineers are mainly focused on understanding how the new engine works and how the bike behaves on track. They are also collecting important data that will help improve performance in the future.
Aprilia had chosen to wait a little longer than some other manufacturers before testing its 2027 machine. However, the team was not worried about this delay. Instead, it preferred to take more time to prepare and then move quickly once testing began.
There are also signs that the new bike includes interesting technical ideas. For example, some reports mention unusual design details, showing that Aprilia is continuing its strong focus on innovation.
This first test is only the beginning. Over the next months and years, the bike will change a lot as engineers improve different parts such as aerodynamics, electronics, and overall performance. By the time the 2027 season starts, the machine will be much more advanced.
Aprilia has become one of the most competitive teams in MotoGP in recent years. With this early work on the new rules, it hopes to stay at the front when the next era of racing begins.
