Aprilia will line up with a reduced number of riders at the Indonesian Grand Prix, after injuries forced Ai Ogura and Jorge Martin to withdraw. This leaves Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez as the team’s only representatives at Mandalika.
Ai Ogura and Jorge Martin will both miss this weekend’s Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika, leaving Aprilia with only two riders after a tough run of accidents.
Ogura, riding for Trackhouse Aprilia in his rookie MotoGP season, is still recovering from a heavy crash at Misano two weeks ago. He went down at around 260 km/h in the opening moments of the Sunday race, suffering a painful injury to his right wrist.
He tried to make a comeback at his home race in Motegi last weekend, completing the sprint in ninth place despite discomfort. But the pain was too much for him to continue into the full Grand Prix, and he has now decided to return to Japan for further treatment.
Meanwhile, factory star Jorge Martin has undergone surgery after breaking his right collarbone in a first-corner accident during the Motegi sprint. Martin collided with his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who was also shaken up in the crash but is still expected to race in Indonesia. Martin’s operation was carried out in Barcelona by Dr. Xavier Mir, a well-known specialist in motorsport injuries.
Aprilia confirmed that Martin’s recovery will be closely monitored over the next few days before any decision is made on when he can return. For now, the team has said he will not be replaced for the Indonesian round.
The double miss means Aprilia’s presence on the grid will be thinner than usual. Bezzecchi will ride as the sole representative for the factory squad, while Raul Fernandez will line up alone for Trackhouse.
Ogura has already missed earlier rounds this season after a practice crash at Silverstone kept him out of both the British and Aragon races. Martin, despite being world champion, has also faced several injury setbacks this year.
So with two riders sidelined, Aprilia faces a difficult weekend at Mandalika, relying on Bezzecchi and Fernandez to carry the team’s hopes in Indonesia.
