Pecco Bagnaia finished second in the MotoGP Sprint race at Le Mans after a difficult start. The Ducati rider was happy to return to the podium, but he also believed he had the speed to fight for victory against Jorge Martin.
Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia said he felt both happy and disappointed after the MotoGP Sprint race at Le Mans. The Ducati rider finished in second place after starting from pole position, but he believed he had the speed to win the race.
At the start of the race, Jorge Martin made an amazing opening lap and quickly moved from eighth place into the lead. Bagnaia did not have a strong start and lost several positions in the first corners. This made his race much more difficult.
Later in the race, Bagnaia moved back up to second place after Marco Bezzecchi made a mistake and went wide. The Italian rider then tried to catch Martin and was the only rider able to match his pace for several laps. However, Martin stayed calm and crossed the finish line more than one second ahead.
After the race, Bagnaia explained that the result felt “bittersweet”. He was pleased to stand on the podium again, but he also believed victory was possible. He admitted that his poor start was the biggest problem because he lost valuable time in the opening moments of the Sprint.
Bagnaia also said Martin’s start was incredible and perhaps one of the best he had ever seen from the Spanish rider. During the race, Bagnaia tried to stay calm and protect his tyres, but in the final laps he began to struggle with the front tyre.
The Ducati rider will start Sunday’s main Grand Prix from pole position once again. However, he expects a more difficult challenge because rain and colder weather could arrive at Le Mans. Bagnaia said it will be very important to be ready for changing conditions.
