Former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button has revealed his admiration for legendary designer Adrian Newey, admitting he still wonders what it would be like to work with him.

Button, who now acts as an ambassador for Aston Martin F1 Team, shared his thoughts in his column Jenson’s Journal, published on the team’s official website.

“I’d love to drive one of these new-generation cars, especially one designed by Adrian Newey. I’ve raced against a lot of his cars over the years and always wondered what it would be like to work with him," Button wrote.

Newey joined Aston Martin in 2024 as part of an ambitious long-term project aimed at fighting for victories under Formula 1’s sweeping 2026 regulation changes. However, the team has endured a challenging opening phase to the season, with performance falling short of expectations.

Even so, Button made it clear that the opportunity to work with Newey remains a major attraction, one that leaves him slightly envious of the current driver pairing.

“I guess you could say I’m a little bit jealous of Lance and Fernando in this respect,” he added.

Button also highlighted Newey’s unique, old-school approach to car design, which continues to stand out in a highly advanced technological era.

“Seeing Adrian operate up close is fascinating. He’s very old school, notebook in hand, sketching ideas on a drawing board, but that’s part of what makes him such a master. He really is,” he explained.

He even joked about attempting to take a closer look at the designer’s work.

“And yes, I may have tried to sneak a peek at his notebook… he noticed,” Button concluded.
