Jak Crawford will get his first Formula 1 practice outing of the 2026 season this weekend, as the Aston Martin reserve driver takes over Fernando Alonso’s car during FP1 at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Aston Martin will hand Jak Crawford a valuable opportunity during Friday practice at Suzuka, with the American set to drive in the first free practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix. The 2025 FIA Formula 2 championship runner-up, who now serves as Aston Martin’s reserve driver, will replace Fernando Alonso as part of the mandatory rookie session requirement.
Crawford has already completed extensive mileage for the team, including simulator work and private running, but this will be his first official first practice appearance of the 2026 season.
“I’m really excited to get behind the wheel and drive for the team at Suzuka. It’s such a historic yet demanding circuit, and I can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned in the simulator to real track conditions,” Crawford said in the statement.
“A big thank you to the team for giving me this opportunity,” added American driver. The 20-year-old also highlighted the importance of maximising every lap as he continues to build experience at Formula 1 level.
“As with my previous FP1 sessions, I’m looking forward to making the most of it and learning as much as I can,” Crawford concluded.
