Brazilian rider Diogo Moreira had a very unusual story during his first race in MotoGP. When he arrived at the circuit for his debut weekend, he discovered a small problem with his racing equipment. His gloves did not fit properly. Because of this, he had to ask another rider for help. The rider he asked was the famous champion Marc Márquez.

Moreira explained later that his own gloves simply did not feel right when he tried to use them. So he asked Márquez if he could borrow a pair for the race. Márquez agreed, and Moreira rode his first MotoGP race wearing the champion’s gloves. Moreira joked about the situation and said maybe the gloves could help him go a few seconds faster.

The young Brazilian rider is already familiar with Márquez. In recent years he has sometimes trained with Marc and also with his brother Álex Márquez. Moreira says it has always been a dream for him to train with the two Spanish riders because they are among the best in the world. When they train together, he tries to watch carefully and learn as much as possible from their experience.

Moreira entered MotoGP in 2026 with the LCR Honda team after becoming the Moto2 world champion in 2025. His title made history because he became the first Brazilian rider to win a world championship in Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

His first MotoGP race took place at the Thai Grand Prix in Buriram. The weekend was an important learning experience for the rookie rider. MotoGP races are longer and more demanding than the categories below, and riders must carefully manage tyres, fuel, and race pace. Moreira said he learned a lot by following other riders during the race and understanding how they handle the bike in different situations.

Despite the challenges, Moreira had a positive start to his MotoGP career. He finished the race in 13th place and scored his first points in the premier class. For a rider in his first race, this was considered a strong result and a good sign for the future.

After the race, Moreira said there is still much to learn in MotoGP. The bikes are faster, the races are tougher, and the level of competition is extremely high. However, he feels motivated and excited about the season. He believes every race will help him improve and understand the bike better.

The next round of the championship is especially important for the Brazilian rider. MotoGP will travel to Brazil, which means Moreira will race in front of his home fans, family, and friends. For him, it will be a very special moment in his career.

His debut already gave fans a memorable story. It is not common for a rookie to start his MotoGP career using the gloves of a multiple world champion. But the situation also showed the friendly side of the paddock, where riders sometimes help each other when problems appear.

For Moreira, borrowing gloves from Marc Márquez may become one of the most unusual memories from the beginning of his MotoGP journey.
