Lewis Hamilton's victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix has reduced Kimi Antonelli's advantage in the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship. Although the Mercedes youngster failed to finish the race, he remains comfortably at the top of the standings after Round 7.
Antonelli's retirement from the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix opened the door for his rivals to make up ground. Hamilton took full advantage by claiming his first victory of the season, reducing the championship gap from 66 to 41 points. The Ferrari driver now has 115 points and remains Antonelli's closest challenger.
George Russell also enjoyed a strong weekend in Spain. The Mercedes driver finished second and cut into his team-mate's lead, consolidating third place in the standings with 106 points.
Charles Leclerc's championship position remained unchanged despite a difficult Barcelona weekend. The Ferrari driver failed to score but comfortably holds fourth place in the standings.
McLaren saw a change in the order between its two drivers. Lando Norris finished third at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix and moved back up to fifth in the championship, overtaking team-mate Oscar Piastri, who slipped to sixth after finishing fifth in the race.
Max Verstappen secured fourth place in Spain, but the result was not enough to improve his championship position. The Red Bull driver remains seventh overall.
Pierre Gasly strengthened his hold on eighth place after another points finish for Alpine. Isack Hadjar also maintained his position in the standings, with sixth place in Barcelona keeping the Red Bull driver ninth overall.
Liam Lawson continued his run of form by scoring points for the third consecutive race. The Racing Bulls driver remains 10th in the championship and has further strengthened his advantage over the chasing midfield pack.
Further down the order, Ollie Bearman, Franco Colapinto and Arvid Lindblad continue to occupy 11th, 12th and 13th places respectively.
