Fabio Quartararo, the French MotoGP rider, will switch teams and join Honda from the 2027 season. This is a big move in the world of motorcycle racing and marks the first major rider change ahead of new MotoGP rules.
Fabio Quartararo, the French MotoGP rider, will switch teams and join Honda from the 2027 season. This is a big move in the world of motorcycle racing.
Quartararo has signed a two-year contract with Honda’s factory MotoGP team. This means he will race for Honda in 2027 and 2028.
Quartararo is 26 years old and has been riding for Yamaha since he started in MotoGP in 2019. He became world champion in 2021 with Yamaha, winning the biggest title in MotoGP.
Although Yamaha gave him his first chance in MotoGP, the team has not been as strong in recent seasons. Quartararo and Yamaha have often talked about improving the bike’s performance, but results have not been good enough for him.
Because of this, Quartararo decided to leave Yamaha at the end of the 2026 season. The change comes at a time when MotoGP is also preparing for new technical rules in 2027. All teams, including Honda and Yamaha, will start using new kinds of bikes with different engines and other big changes.
Honda hopes that signing Quartararo will make the team more competitive again. Honda has had ups and downs in recent years, but they want to return to the front of the MotoGP field with strong riders and a good bike.
It is not yet clear who will be Quartararo’s teammate at Honda. The current Honda riders, Joan Mir and Luca Marini, are under contract until the end of 2026. After that, Honda will decide who races alongside Quartararo in 2027.
This move is the first big team change confirmed for the 2027 MotoGP season and is expected to shape the rider market over the upcoming months.
