Ferrari has revealed a special livery for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza, celebrating 50 years since Niki Lauda won his first world title.
The design is inspired by the Ferrari 312T, the car that carried Lauda to the championship in 1975. That year, Lauda secured the crown with third place at Monza, while his team-mate Clay Regazzoni won the race, giving Ferrari a double reason to celebrate.
The livery keeps Ferrari’s famous red but adds white details to match the look of the 1975 car. Driver names appear in the same style as they did back then, and the Ferrari logo is shown in a rectangle instead of its usual shield. Even the rear wing has been changed to a metallic silver, reflecting the aluminium parts used on the old machine. It is the fourth year in a row Ferrari has brought a special design to Monza.
Ferrari staff will also wear blue outfits for the weekend, while Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will have race suits, helmets, and shoes created in the classic style. For Hamilton, the occasion is especially meaningful. He shared a close friendship with Lauda, who played a key role in bringing him to Mercedes in 2013. Hamilton honoured him in 2019 by wearing a red helmet in Monaco, just days after Lauda’s passing, and went on to win that race.
Ferrari has also planned fan activities to mark the anniversary. Former driver Jean Alesi will take to the track in the 412 T2, the last Ferrari F1 car powered by a V12 engine. The team will hope that the passionate home crowd, together with the sense of history, can inspire them to fight for their first Grand Prix victory of the season.
The past meeting the present 🤩
