MotoGP Summaries Francesco Bagnaia Ducati Lenovo team MotoGP Brazil Motogp 2026 Season
Francesco Bagnaia had a tough start to the Brazilian MotoGP weekend, as poor weather on Friday left him unprepared for qualifying and the Sprint race. A crash and uncertain bike setup made Saturday especially challenging.
Francesco Bagnaia had a difficult Saturday at the Brazilian MotoGP, and much of it began with problems on Friday. The weather played a big part in his struggles and created a chain of issues that affected his whole weekend.
On Friday, the conditions were mixed, with rain and damp patches on the track. Because of this, riders did not get enough time to test their bikes properly in dry conditions. This was especially important at a circuit like Goiânia, where understanding the bike setup is key.
Bagnaia was left with two different setups on his Ducati bike going into Saturday. Normally, a rider would have a clear favourite after practice, but he did not have enough dry laps to decide properly.
When qualifying began, he chose the bike he preferred and went out in Q2. However, things quickly went wrong. He crashed on his first lap, which damaged that bike. This meant he had to continue qualifying with his second bike, which he did not feel as comfortable with.
Because of this, Bagnaia could only manage 11th place on the grid. Starting so far back made the sprint race much harder, as it is short and there is little time to move through the field.
In the sprint itself, he tried to recover positions but could only finish 8th. Although he scored some points, it was far from what he would have expected as a top rider and former champion.
Other riders also faced a chaotic day. Several crashes happened in qualifying and even the race schedule was affected by a problem with the track surface, which caused delays.
In the end, Bagnaia described his Saturday as intense. His performance showed how important Friday practice can be. Without enough time in good conditions, even the best riders can struggle to find the right setup and confidence.
This situation highlights a key part of MotoGP. Small issues early in the weekend, such as bad weather or limited track time, can have a big impact later on. For Bagnaia, a difficult Friday led to mistakes, a crash and a disappointing result on Saturday.
