Joan Mir’s strong weekend at Le Mans ended in disappointment after a late crash in the French MotoGP left the Honda rider needing stitches to his hand. Despite the painful accident, there were still positive signs for Honda as Mir showed impressive pace throughout the weekend.
Joan Mir had a painful weekend at the French MotoGP after a heavy crash during the race at Le Mans. The Honda rider injured his hand and later needed stitches to close a cut.
The 2020 MotoGP world champion had started the weekend very well. He qualified in seventh place and finished sixth in the sprint race on Saturday. Many fans believed he could fight for another strong result in Sunday’s main race.
However, things went wrong late in the race. Mir crashed on lap 20 and could not continue. After the accident, doctors treated a deep cut on his hand and he needed several stitches. The Spaniard said the crash was “unexpected” because he felt comfortable on the bike before the fall.
The result was another disappointment in a difficult 2026 season for the Honda rider. Mir has struggled to finish races this year and the French Grand Prix became his fourth retirement in only five rounds.
Even so, there were still positive signs for Honda at Le Mans. Mir showed good speed throughout the weekend, and his performance in qualifying and the sprint race proved that the team is making progress. Fans will now hope he can recover quickly and return stronger at the next MotoGP round.
