Aprilia has confirmed that Jorge Martin will not ride in the first pre-season test of 2026 at Sepang, Malaysia. The test will take place from 3rd to 5th February.

Martin has had a very tough time with injuries since his move to Aprilia. During the 2025 season, he was often out of action because of crashes and broken bones.

Over the winter, doctors found that his body had not fully healed. They decided to carry out two more operations to help him recover properly. The first operation was to fix the scaphoid bone in his left hand. The second was on his right collarbone, which he broke in a MotoGP sprint race at Motegi in September 2025.

Because of these surgeries, Martin will not ride his Aprilia RS-GP26 at the Sepang test. But he will still travel to Malaysia to be with his team and help where he can. He will also take part in the official MotoGP launch event in Kuala Lumpur on 7th February.

Aprilia has chosen test rider Lorenzo Savadori to ride instead of Martin in Malaysia. Savadori has ridden for Aprilia many times before when Martin was injured, including much of last year’s season.

Martin is now aiming to return to riding at the second test in Buriram, Thailand, on 21st–22nd February. If he is fit, he will have only two days of track time before the first race of the season at Buriram on 1st March.

This is not the first time Martin’s season has been hit by injuries. In the early months of 2025, he crashed badly at the Sepang test and broke bones in his hand and foot. Later that year, he also suffered rib fractures in a crash at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Martin, who is 27 years old, is working hard to get back to full strength and compete at the start of the 2026 season.
