Marc Márquez has gone through another difficult moment in his MotoGP career after a heavy crash during the French Grand Prix weekend at Le Mans. The Ducati rider crashed at high speed in the sprint race and later doctors confirmed that he had broken the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.

After the accident, Ducati confirmed that Márquez travelled to Madrid for surgery. The operation was not only for his injured foot. Doctors also carried out a second procedure on his right shoulder, where he had been suffering pain for many months.

The shoulder problem came from an older injury. Márquez explained that a screw from a previous operation was pressing on a nerve in his arm. This had caused weakness and discomfort while riding his Ducati bike during the 2026 season. The Spanish rider said he sometimes struggled to control the bike properly because of the pain.

Doctors successfully repaired the fracture in his foot and also removed screws and bone fragments from his shoulder. Ducati later confirmed that both surgeries went well. Márquez stayed in hospital overnight before starting his recovery process.

The injury means Márquez will miss both the French Grand Prix and the next race in Catalunya. Ducati hopes he can return for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello later this month, but his comeback will depend on how quickly he recovers.

Márquez has suffered many serious injuries during his long racing career. Since his major arm injury in 2020, he has needed several operations and long recovery periods. Even with these problems, he returned to the top level and won the MotoGP world championship again with Ducati.

Before the crash in France, Márquez had already admitted that he was not fully comfortable on the 2026 Ducati bike. He said both the motorcycle and his physical condition were creating difficulties this season.

The French Grand Prix weekend was also disappointing for Ducati because teammate Francesco Bagnaia crashed during the race. Meanwhile, Aprilia enjoyed a brilliant result with Jorge Martin taking victory at Le Mans.

Fans around the world have sent messages of support to Márquez after the latest setback. Many people admire his determination because he continues to fight and return after every injury. At 33 years old, he remains one of the most famous and successful riders in MotoGP history.
