Marc Márquez takes pole position in exciting qualifying at Sachsenring

Marc Márquez was the fastest rider in qualifying and took pole position after a strong final lap. His brother Alex Márquez finished second, while Fabio Di Giannantonio secured third place after an exciting battle.

10 minutes until the session, the top 10 looked as follows: A. Márquez, M. Márquez, Bagnaia, Martin, Mir, Acosta, Fernandez, Bezzecchi, Rins, Marini. The riders made their way back into the pits to talk to their mechanics.

Again, some of the riders stayed on the track, using the empty circuit to find improvements. One of the riders who managed to improve was Ai Ogura, who had been trailing outside the top 10 before moving up to 4th place.

Q1

In this part of qualifying were: Bastianini, Binder, Bagnaia, Marini, Quartararo, Mir, Moreira, Viñales, Razgatlıoğlu, Rins, Crutchlow. The fastest two riders would be promoted to Q2.

The first measured lap time was a 1:20, set by Fabio Quartararo. However, shortly after him, both Bagnaia and Mir completed their laps, both breaking into the 1:19 range.

Five minutes into the session, the order looked as follows: Bagnaia, Mir, Moreira, Quartararo, Marini, Binder, Bastianini, Razgatlıoğlu, Viñales, Crutchlow, Rins. The riders made their way back into the pits.

As the riders returned to the track, Bagnaia continued attacking. He improved his time over the riders behind him. It was clear that Bagnaia was the fastest rider on the track. However, Fabio Quartararo managed to improve his time and move into 2nd place, pushing Mir out of the advancing positions.

Marini, who was out of the advancing positions in 4th place, started a very good lap and looked capable of challenging for the front. However, he made a mistake and was left without improving his position.

With the chequered flag out, Bagnaia and Quartararo advanced to Q2.

Q2

In this part of qualifying were: M. Márquez, Fernandez, Di Giannantonio, A. Márquez, Miller, Ogura, Bezzecchi, Martin, Acosta, Morbidelli, Bagnaia, Quartararo.

The lap times started in the 1:19 to 1:20 range. The majority of the riders were in the 1:19s, with Fabio Di Giannantonio moving into provisional pole position. The first yellow flag was caused by Marco Bezzecchi, who suffered a high-side crash at Turn 7.

Fernandez attacked the provisional pole position on his next attempt, further improving his time to take provisional pole. With five minutes remaining in the session, the riders made their way back into the pits. The order looked as follows: Fernandez, A. Márquez, Di Giannantonio, M. Márquez, Bezzecchi, Martin, Acosta, Ogura, Quartararo, Miller, Morbidelli, Bagnaia.

Marc Márquez stayed on the empty track, trying to take provisional pole, but he couldn't do so, moving only into 2nd place for the time being.

As the riders returned to the track, Fabio Di Giannantonio attacked the front, improving his time and taking provisional pole position for the moment. On his next attempt, he was pushing for an even faster lap, but he lost time in the second sector and was left without any further improvement.

Marc Márquez broke the lap record and moved into provisional pole position. Behind him was his brother, Alex Márquez. With the chequered flag out, there were no further improvements, leaving Marc Márquez on pole position, with his brother Alex in second place. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished in third place.
