Spanish MotoGP rider Maverick Viñales will not take part in the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix after having surgery on his shoulder. The race, held in Jerez, was meant to be an important moment for him, especially as it is one of his home events.
Viñales has been dealing with a shoulder problem for some time. The issue came from an earlier injury, where a screw had been placed in his shoulder during a previous operation. Recently, doctors discovered that this screw had moved out of place, which caused pain and made it unsafe for him to continue racing.
Because of this, he decided to leave the United States Grand Prix earlier in the season and return to Europe for surgery. The operation was carried out at the end of March, and the loose screw was removed. After that, his main goal was to recover in time for the Spanish Grand Prix.
There was hope that the break in the MotoGP calendar would give him enough time to heal. However, his team later confirmed that he is still not fit enough to race. His recovery is going well, but not quickly enough for him to safely compete at such a high level.
Viñales himself has said that missing the race is disappointing, especially because it is in his home country. Still, he understands that his health must come first. He wants to return only when he is fully ready, so he can perform at his best for the rest of the season.
At the moment, his team, Red Bull KTM Tech3, will continue without him for the Spanish Grand Prix. There were plans to use a replacement rider, but this has also become difficult due to other injuries in the team.
The focus is now on Viñales’s full recovery. If everything goes well, he is hoping to return to racing at the next rounds, possibly at Le Mans. For now, the most important thing is that he heals properly and avoids any further problems with his shoulder.
