The Australian Grand Prix will move to the centre of Adelaide from 2027 in a major change for motorcycle racing. The news was announced by MotoGP, the South Australian Government and the City of Adelaide. A six-year agreement has been signed, which means the race will take place in the city until the end of 2032.

This will be the first time in history that a MotoGP Grand Prix is held on a true city-centre street circuit. Street races are common in car racing, but they are new for modern MotoGP. Organisers have stressed that safety will not be compromised. The track has been specially designed to meet the highest modern standards so that riders can compete with full confidence.

The new Adelaide Street Circuit will be about 4.195 kilometres long and will include 18 corners. Riders are expected to reach speeds of more than 340 km/h on the fastest sections. The layout is inspired by the famous circuit that hosted the Australian Grand Prix during its time as a Formula 1 race between 1985 and 1995. However, the new design has been carefully adjusted for motorcycle racing, with improved run-off areas, modern barriers and a track surface created especially for MotoGP bikes.

The circuit design was officially revealed on 19 February by MotoGP Chief Sporting Officer Carlos Ezpeleta and South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas. It has been confirmed that the first MotoGP race in Adelaide will take place over three days in November 2027. The weekend will include practice sessions, qualifying and the main race, and it is expected to attract large crowds from across Australia and overseas.

Adelaide is well known for hosting major sporting and cultural events, and its city layout makes it ideal for a street race. Fans will be able to enjoy the action close to the track, while local hotels, restaurants and shops are likely to benefit from the increase in visitors. The event is expected to bring strong economic benefits to South Australia and create jobs linked to tourism and event management.

MotoGP has grown quickly in recent years, with rising global audiences and strong international interest. By moving the Australian Grand Prix into the heart of Adelaide, organisers hope to create a new festival atmosphere and bring fans closer to the sport than ever before. More details about tickets and event plans will be announced at a later date.
