BK8 Gresini Racing will have only one MotoGP rider at the German Grand Prix this weekend. The team has confirmed that Fermín Aldeguer will not race at the Sachsenring and there will be no replacement rider.
Aldeguer is still recovering from the back injury he suffered after a crash during the Dutch Grand Prix at Assen. Doctors advised him to continue resting, so he will miss another race while he focuses on getting fit again.
Because of this, Álex Márquez will be the only Gresini rider on the starting grid in Germany. He is also recovering from recent injuries, but he is expected to race and hopes to be back to full fitness when the MotoGP season continues at Silverstone after the summer break.
The decision not to use a replacement rider means Gresini will field just one Ducati bike at the Sachsenring. Although MotoGP teams can sometimes call in a test or reserve rider, the team has decided that this will not happen for the German Grand Prix.
Aldeguer has shown good speed during his rookie MotoGP season despite facing several injuries. Missing races is frustrating for the young Spanish rider, but his main goal is now to recover fully before returning to competition later this year.
The German Grand Prix is the final MotoGP event before the summer break. Gresini hope both of their riders will be fully fit when the championship resumes, allowing the team to return to racing with its full line-up.
