Formula 1 Netflix Michael Schumacher Racing history

Netflix has announced a new feature-length documentary titled Schumacher ’94, revisiting one of the most intense and defining seasons in Formula 1 history, the year in which Michael Schumacher claimed his first world championship.

Netflix has confirmed it will premiere a second documentary dedicated to Michael Schumacher later this year, this time concentrating exclusively on the extraordinary 1994 Formula 1 season. The project was officially revealed during the platform’s What Next? 2026 presentation.

Titled Schumacher ’94, the film will chronicle a campaign that marked a turning point not only in Schumacher’s career, but also in the wider history of Formula 1. At 25 years old, Schumacher opened the season with victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix and went on to establish himself as the central figure of a year filled with sporting brilliance, controversy and tragedy.

The 1994 season remains one of the most dramatic ever witnessed in Formula 1. It was shaped by the fatal accident of Ayrton Senna at Imola, ongoing allegations surrounding rule interpretations and driving conduct, and an intense title battle that went down to the final race.

Schumacher ultimately secured the championship by a single point over Damon Hill, with the decisive moment coming in Adelaide, where the two rivals famously collided. That incident, still debated more than three decades later, will be one of the key moments explored in the documentary.

According to the official synopsis, Schumacher ’94 will combine on-track drama with personal insight. The film features reflections from Schumacher’s wife Corinna Schumacher and others close to him, painting a portrait of a fiercely uncompromising competitor on the circuit and a thoughtful, empathetic individual away from the spotlight. The documentary also touches on the early years of Michael and Corinna’s relationship, which developed alongside his rapid rise in Formula 1.

Schumacher ’94 follows Netflix’s 2021 documentary Schumacher, which covered the full arc of the German legend’s career. This new release narrows the focus to a single, pivotal year – one that forged a champion and left a lasting imprint on Formula 1 history.
