Dorna Sports, S.L. has announced that it will change its name to MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group from the 2026 season. The new name shows how much the organisation has grown and how it sees the future of the sport. The company has held the exclusive commercial and television rights to MotoGP since 1992, guiding the championship through a long period of success and worldwide expansion.

Over the past three decades, MotoGP has developed from a top racing series into a global sports entertainment brand. Races are followed by millions of fans across Europe, Asia, the Americas and many other regions. The new name reflects this change and shows that the organisation wants to build something even bigger than a traditional motorsport championship.

In 2024, the American media company Liberty Media, which also owns Formula 1, bought Dorna and all of its properties for €4.2 billion. Even after the sale, the management team remained in place. Chief Executive Officer Carmelo Ezpeleta continues to lead the organisation. He said the name change is much more than a new identity and described it as a clear statement about the company’s plans for the future.

Ezpeleta explained that MotoGP has grown far beyond being just a championship. It has become a global entertainment product with strong cultural impact and passionate fans around the world. As MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, the company plans to increase innovation, expand into new markets and improve the experience for supporters both at the circuit and online.

The organisation wants to focus more on digital technology, social media, streaming platforms and new ways to tell stories about riders and teams. It also hopes to attract younger and more diverse audiences while keeping the spirit and history of motorcycle racing alive. The aim is to combine exciting action on the track with strong entertainment away from it.

The group will continue to manage other important championships, including Moto2, Moto3 and the Superbike World Championship. It will also oversee the Road to MotoGP development programmes and the new Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup. Some fans have expressed concern that the Superbike series could lose part of its identity, but the company has said it remains committed to supporting every level of elite motorcycle racing.

After more than thirty years in charge, the former Dorna brand now begins a new chapter under a different name. With Liberty Media as owner and the same leadership team in place, MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group is aiming to strengthen the championship’s global position and shape the future of motorcycle sport in the years ahead.
