Formula 1 Lando Norris McLaren F1 Miami 2026 F1 season

Lando Norris had to settle for the second place in Miami GP behind Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli. In a race full of action Norris took the lead shortly after a Safety Car ended but he made a pitstop one lap later than Antonelli and therefore suffered a big undercut.

Reflecting back on the race, Norris said, quoted by the official Formula 1 website: “A mixed bag, really. We just got undercut. No excuses other than that. We got undercut, we should have boxed first. Kimi did a good job, hats off to Mercedes and Kimi, they drove a good race.”

The reigning World Champion also admitted that it is easy to make mistakes on this track with the new cars and big braking zones. But according to Norris’ words, Antonelli didn’t make any mistake that would be big enough for him to capitalize on. “I have to be happy, and I think as a team we have to be happy,” he added.

Norris also suggested that the key element of the race was probably to make as few mistakes as possible. He highlighted that the drivers still have to be tactical with how they use the battery or they can easily get caught up in the wrong running of things and get caught out badly. “But other than that, I feel like I did a good job, and the team did a good job all weekend, so I have to be proud of everyone,” he commented.

Even though McLaren has an achievement to be proud of with all their upgrades that seems to be working well, Norris saw a potential of winning in Miami: “ I’m gutted to miss out on a win here in Miami, I think it was possible today, but not the pace to get back past him in the end. We take it on the chin, and it’s still a positive weekend altogether.”
