Pirelli have confirmed that Mario Isola will step down from his role as Head of Motorsport, ending a long period as one of the most recognisable figures behind Formula 1 tyre supply. He will remain with the company until 1 July to support a smooth handover.

Dario Marrafuschi has been appointed as his successor and will officially assume the position on 1 March. He joined Pirelli in 2008 and has worked mainly in Formula 1 research and development. In recent years he has also overseen development of the company’s road tyre products. In his new role, Marrafuschi will report to Giovanni Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice President for Sustainability, New Mobility and Motorsport.

Pirelli thanked Isola for his contribution, highlighting his dedication and passion in developing the company’s motorsport activities.

The change comes shortly before the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season. The championship begins with the Australian Grand Prix on 6 to 8 March and will feature a new generation of tyres prepared for the latest technical regulations.

The 2026 tyres will keep the current 18-inch wheel size but will be narrower, with a reduced external diameter compared with previous specifications.
