Somkiat Chantra had a crash last Tuesday while he was training on an off-road motorcycle. His team, IDEMITSU Honda LCR, said in a statement that he had hurt a ligament in his right leg, called the lateral collateral ligament (LCL).

After seeing a medical specialist, doctors decided he needs surgery. The operation is planned for next Tuesday. Because of the injury, Somkiat will not be able to race in the upcoming two MotoGP events (the German and Czech Republic Grand Prix).

The team said they will share more updates about his recovery in the future. Right now, they have not announced if another rider will take his place.
