With several key teams announcing their new signings and contract extensions, the grid is taking shape with notable shifts and intriguing additions. From Brad Binder’s extended tenure with KTM to Ducati’s high-profile recruitment of Marc Márquez, the upcoming season promises to be a thrilling chapter in the sport’s history. This article delves into the confirmed rider changes, ongoing rumors, and the strategic moves by teams aiming to secure their competitive edge in the next MotoGP season.
KTM Teams
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Let’s start with the riders confirmed for next season. First on the list is Brad Binder, who extended his contract with KTM last year, meaning he will stay with the team until 2026. Rookie star Pedro Acosta will move from the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 team to the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, where he will be Brad Binder’s teammate.
GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 A few weeks after an announcment of Acosta, KTM confirmed that Enea Bastianini and Maverick Viñales would join the rebranded Red Bull KTM Tech3 team in 2025.
Ducati Teams
Ducati Lenovo Team Ducati secured World Champion Francesco Bagnaia until 2026. They didn’t stop with one world champion, as they also signed six-time World Champion Marc Márquez. This announcement led to a lot of drama among riders. Legend Valentino Rossi suggested that several Ducati riders feel "betrayed" by Ducati signing Márquez to their factory team.
Gresini Racing MotoGP Gresini decided to extend Alex Márquez’s contract for another two years. They have still have one rider to find.
Yamaha Teams
Yamaha didn’t want to miss out either, as they extended the contract with 2021 World Champion Fabio Quartararo, hoping to rebuild their championship prospects. We can only hope Yamaha will develop a competitive bike for Quartararo, as he chose to stay instead of leaving for Aprilia. There is hope, as Yamaha and Prima Pramac Racing revealed that they will be joining forces in 2025. The second rider for Yamaha will be Alex Rins, who signed a new two-year deal before the British Grand Prix.
Honda Teams
Repsol Honda Team Both riders, Joan Mir and Luca Marini, will be staying with the team, so the lineup will remain unchanged.
LCR Honda Castrol/Idemitsu has only confirmed one rider, who is Johann Zarco.
Aprilia Teams
Aprilia Racing During the Mugello test, Aprilia revealed that Jorge Martín would join them on a multi-year deal next season, replacing the retiring Aleix Espargaro. Marco Bezzecchi will join Martín as his teammate, completing the factory lineup.
Trackhouse Racing Trackhouse Racing announced that Raul Fernandez will be extending his contract for another two years. Recently they announced Ai Ogura as their second rider.
Rumors Surrounding the 2025 MotoGP Grid
With Yamaha joining forces with Pramac, they are looking for two more riders to fill their lineup next season, and it appears they will have plenty of suitors. Meanwhile, Honda has one spot open in the LCR Honda team, raising questions about who will take that seat and where Takaaki Nakagami will go for the 2025 season. The rider market is looking strong, with both KTM riders Jack Miller and Augusto Fernandez searching for rides. But rumours are sugesting that Jack Miller is set to remain on the grid with a seat at Pramac Yamaha. We’re also waiting to see what the future holds for Franco Morbidelli—will he move to VR46?. It will likely be several weeks before we know the full grid for the next season. There are only five seats available for the upcoming season.
