After Max Verstappen crashed in Qualifying during his final attempt, he lined up fifth at the race start but soon he began to make progress. He had a good first half of the race battling with Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton securing a second place finish.

“I think it was of course a very good race for us. The first few laps were quite fun and then it was trying to manage your tyres and honestly, I think the car was in quite a good window for I would say half of the race,” commented Verstappen after the race, quoted by the official Formula 1 website.

“Then we picked up let's say a few issues with the car which prevented me from basically finding that nice rhythm. But still, to be second and close to a win I think is extremely positive for us,” he continued while adding that in that sense, he is very happy.

Red Bull arrived in Spielberg with a package of upgrades, which seemed to be working as the car looked more competitive against Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren. After all, both Ferraris started the Austrian Grand Prix ahead of Verstappen but their race pace led them only to P5 and P8 finish. Besides that, Verstappen took the chequered flag only 1. 6 seconds behind the winner George Russell.
