Alex Marquez has finally secured his long-awaited first MotoGP victory—and he did it in front of his home crowd in Jerez. After five challenging seasons in the premier class and several runner-up finishes behind his brother Marc, Alex stood tall on the top step of the podium, calling the moment one of the best of his life.
Alex Marquez finally won his first MotoGP race, and he did it in front of his home crowd as well. And after racing in MotoGP for five years, he had finally stood up on the top step of the podium, calling it one of the best moments of his life.
And it is understandable that this race was emotional for Alex, as he had finished second to his older brother Marc Marquez this season. Yet in Jerez, Alex was on top, at the very track he always dreamed of winning at.
"If you asked me where I wanted my first win, I would say Jerez," Alex said to MotoGP.com. "I won my first Moto2 race here too, but winning in MotoGP is a whole new level. The fans here are amazing. They are the best and very respectful. It was an incredible day."
Alex had won a championship title in Moto3 in 2014 and Moto2 in 2019. But he says this first MotoGP win feels just as important.
“It’s on the same level as my two world titles,” he said to Crash.net. “Today felt just as special.”
Thanks to this win, Alex now leads the 2025 MotoGP championship, and is one point ahead of Marc. This is the second time he is leading the standings.
And to get the win, he had to pass riders like Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo. But this work became easier when his brother crashed out on the third lap. And after the race, Alex said his brother was in his thoughts during the victory lap.
"I was full of emotions after the last corner, " he told Motorsport.com. " I thought about my family, my grandfather, and especially Marc. He’s the one who supports me the most and gives me the best advice."
The Marquez brothers have a close relationship and they even often train together, even when they race for different teams.
So even though he is again leading the standings, he is not focused on the title.
“No,” he replied when asked by MotoGP.com“I’m just enjoying the win.”
Yet Alex now knows the gap might grow, but for now, he is just enjoying his first win.
