Reports suggest Aston Martin is in talks with Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s long-time race engineer at Red Bull, about a senior management role.
Speculation about Lambiase’s future intensified after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where his emotional reaction on the pit wall and a poignant post-race radio exchange with Verstappen sparked rumours that their partnership might be coming to an end. “You can be proud of that mate, hold your head up high,” Lambiase told Verstappen, who replied cryptically: “We showed them one final time who’s boss.” The moment led many to believe that the Italian engineer, widely known as ‘GP’, may have completed his final race alongside the four-time world champion.
While it had been expected that Lambiase would move into a different role within Red Bull rather than leave the team entirely, The Race reports that a new option has emerged in recent weeks. High-level sources suggest Aston Martin has opened discussions with Lambiase about a senior position, potentially at team principal or CEO level, as part of a revised management structure.

This development would also raise questions about Adrian Newey’s future responsibilities. Newey was announced as Aston Martin’s team principal from 2026, but has publicly stressed that his priority remains car design. Bringing in a figure such as Lambiase could allow Newey to focus on technical leadership, with the two already sharing a strong working relationship from their time together at Red Bull.
Should Lambiase depart, Red Bull would lose yet another key figure amid a wider reshuffle, with several senior engineers already heading to rival projects. His exit would also reignite speculation over Verstappen’s long-term future, especially with Aston Martin positioning itself aggressively ahead of the 2026 regulation changes. According to The Race, Red Bull would fight hard to retain Lambiase, but Aston Martin’s interest signals just how highly regarded he is across the paddock.
