Aston Martin to debut AMR26 B-spec at the Hungarian Grand Prix

The new package focuses mainly on improving the car’s aerodynamics and reducing its weight. Aston Martin has developed a new nose and heavily revised its aerodynamic surfaces, while the rear suspension has also been updated.

The team has also managed to reduce the weight of both the chassis and gearbox. The changes to the front of the chassis required the car to go through a new homologation process and additional crash testing.

Aston Martin’s main target is to get the AMR26 as close as possible to the minimum weight limit while making a significant step forward in aerodynamic performance.

The team expects the B-spec car to bring a noticeable improvement, although it is not putting a specific figure on the expected gain. The real impact of the upgrade will only become clear once Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll take the car out on track at the Hungaroring.

Aston Martin has struggled badly in the opening part of the season and has often been unable to keep up with the midfield. Team Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack said the most important thing now is simply to get the team back into the fight.

“For us, the most important is that we go back racing, because we have not over the last events – it was very difficult to keep up with the midfield,” Krack said.

The B-spec AMR26 is therefore seen as the first major step in Aston Martin’s attempt to recover from its difficult start to the season. Honda is also preparing an updated power unit, which is expected to arrive at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.

Aston Martin hopes the combination of the new B-spec chassis and Honda’s later engine upgrade can help the team make a much bigger step forward in the second half of the season.
