Formula 1 and FIA have announced that the pre-season testing will take place once again in Bahrain, despite talks with Barcelona.

Since 2021, Bahrain has hosted both the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix and the first pre-season test for Formula 1, replacing Barcelona as the usual testing location.

The pre-season test at Bahrain International Circuit, located in the heart of the Sakhir desert, will take place from 26th to 28th of February, which is two weeks earlier than in 2024, just before Ramadan starts at the end of the month.

Bahrain was chosen because its weather is more predictable for F1, and it’s easier for teams to test and race at the same track without moving equipment.

However, with the Australian Grand Prix set to open the season next year due to Ramadan preventing a Middle East start, there was talk of moving the test back to Barcelona.

Despite this, most teams have agreed to keep the pre-season test in Bahrain for 2025, though Barcelona may return with the new rules and regulation changes in 2026.

After testing in Bahrain, F1 teams will likely send their cars back to Europe for final preparations before shipping them to Melbourne for the first race on March 16.

While traveling to Bahrain for a single test might be more costly and complicated than testing in Barcelona, the reliable weather in Bahrain is seen as worth it compared to the uncertainty in Barcelona.
