Hungary's Balaton Park Circuit is poised to make its MotoGP debut next year, marking the return of the Hungarian Grand Prix after more than three decades. Meanwhile, Portugal's Algarve circuit is expected to be removed from the 2025 calendar, allowing Spain to retain its four MotoGP races.
Hungary's Balaton Park Circuit is set to debut as a MotoGP venue next year, while Portugal is likely to be removed from the calendar. Although the complete 2025 MotoGP calendar is yet to be announced, details are emerging as Dorna finalizes plans for the upcoming season.
The new calendar should feature several changes, such as Brno returning to the calendar with Balaton Park Circuit standing out as the most significant addition. Local authorities, together with Dorna officials, plan to hold a presentation in mid-September to officially announce the return of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hungary last hosted a MotoGP event in 1993, where Eddie Lawson won on a Cagiva at the Hungaroring, which continues to be a regular stop on the Formula 1 calendar.
To make room for Hungary, the Algarve circuit in Portugal is expected to be dropped. This move would allow Spain to retain its four races at Jerez, Barcelona, Aragon, and Valencia. Dorna had initially considered rotating events between various Spanish venues and Portimao, but this approach now seems unnecessary.
As previously announced, the 2025 MotoGP season will start in Thailand, potentially followed by another race in Asia, as hinted during Thursday's Aragon media day.
The championship is then expected to move to the Americas, with Argentina reclaiming its place on the calendar. The Argentine GP is likely to be scheduled either before or after the US Grand Prix in Austin.
