After several tough seasons in MotoGP, Raul Fernandez has finally achieved his first Grand Prix victory and team boss Davide Brivio says it all came down to self-belief. The Trackhouse MotoGP chief explained how the American outfit guided the young Spaniard to rebuild his confidence, improve his fitness, and turn promise into performance.
Trackhouse MotoGP team boss Davide Brivio has shared how his American team played a big part in turning Raul Fernandez into a Grand Prix winner.
The young Spanish rider made his MotoGP debut in 2022 with Tech3 KTM, after a brilliant Moto2 season where he broke Marc Marquez’s rookie record with eight victories. However, his first few years in MotoGP were far from easy. The KTM bike struggled in 2022, and his switch to Aprilia in 2023 did not bring much improvement either.
Fernandez also had to deal with several injuries, including one this year that affected his pre-season training. Until recently, his best MotoGP result was fifth place, which he achieved twice. Things began to change when he took his first-ever MotoGP podium in the Indonesian Grand Prix sprint race, followed by another strong result at Phillip Island. Then, last weekend, he made the most of Marco Bezzecchi’s penalties to secure the win at the Australian Grand Prix.
Brivio explained that the key to Fernandez’s success was simple, he needed to believe in himself.
“There’s no question he has great talent,” Brivio said to motorsport.com. “Last year, when we decided to keep him in the team, we believed he could become our leading rider while we helped Ai Ogura to grow. He just needed to trust himself, focus on the work, and learn how to make the best use of his time in the garage.”
The start of the 2025 season was difficult, as Fernandez struggled to score points. But Trackhouse continued to support him, holding regular talks to find ways to improve both his mindset and performance.
“He worked very hard over the winter on his physical fitness, which was a weak point last year,” Brivio explained. “From Le Mans onwards, he began to fight inside the top 10 more regularly. After that, we aimed for the top seven — and suddenly, he was on the podium in the last two races!”
Brivio said he is proud not just of Fernandez’s win, but also of his growing maturity and race management.
“He showed his intelligence and calmness,” he said. “After the podium in Mandalika, he came to Australia full of confidence, and that made all the difference. Now, he truly believes in himself.”
For both Fernandez and Trackhouse, this victory marks a major turning point. It is proof that with patience, teamwork, and belief, talent can win.
