Ferrari has officially ended speculation about Fred Vasseur’s future by renewing his contract as team principal.
There were rumours during last month’s Canadian Grand Prix that Vasseur was under pressure after a disappointing start to the 2025 season. Ferrari hasn’t won a race this year and currently sits 268 points behind leaders McLaren. Despite this, the team has decided to keep Vasseur in charge for next season, which will see major rule changes in the sport.
In a statement, Ferrari said: “Renewing Fred’s contract reflects Ferrari’s determination to build on the foundations laid so far. His ability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation, and pursue performance aligns fully with Ferrari’s values and long-term ambitions. Under Fred’s leadership, Scuderia Ferrari HP is united, focused, and committed to continuous improvement. The trust placed in him reflects the team’s confidence in its strategic direction and reinforces a shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari’s fans, drivers, and team members expect and deserve.”
Vasseur joined Ferrari at the start of the 2023 season, replacing Mattia Binotto. Since then, he has worked to improve the team’s performance by making changes behind the scenes. Ferrari came close to winning the 2024 Constructors’ Championship under his leadership, missing out by just 14 points to McLaren. This year has been more difficult, but the team remains second in the standings, ahead of Mercedes and Red Bull.
Reports from Italian media had suggested Ferrari might replace Vasseur, with rumours of interest in Red Bull’s former boss Christian Horner. However, this new contract, believed to be a multi-year deal, shows that Ferrari is sticking with Vasseur and backing his long-term vision for success.
