Alex Marquez is back in MotoGP after recovering from serious injuries suffered earlier this season. The Gresini Ducati rider admitted he felt better than expected during his first day back on track, although he is still working towards full fitness.
Alex Marquez has returned to MotoGP after spending more than a month away from racing because of serious injuries. The Spanish rider made his comeback at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno and was pleased with his first day back on the bike.
Marquez was injured in a heavy crash during the Catalan Grand Prix in May. The accident left him with a broken collarbone and a fracture in his neck. He needed surgery and missed two MotoGP rounds while recovering.
Before arriving in Brno, Marquez was not sure what to expect. His main goal was simply to ride again and see how his body reacted. After completing many laps on Friday, he admitted that he felt better than expected, even though he was still dealing with some pain and tiredness.
The Gresini Ducati rider said he is becoming a little tired of people saying he is always doing better than expected. He believes he knows his own abilities and understands what he can achieve when he is fit. However, after such a serious accident, he was happy that his return was going in the right direction.
Marquez explained that the physical side of the recovery has been harder than the mental side. His neck and shoulder are still not fully healed, and he knows he must be careful not to push too hard too soon. He said he will continue listening to his body throughout the weekend.
Despite the difficulties, the 30-year-old was smiling after getting back on track. He described simply being able to race again as a victory. Completing practice sessions and competing with the other riders gave him confidence that he is moving in the right direction.
For now, Marquez is focusing on recovery rather than results. After weeks of rehabilitation, surgery and hard work, being back on a MotoGP bike is already a major achievement. The next step is to regain full fitness and return to his best level as the season continues.
