Jonas Folger will make a surprise return to MotoGP at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans, stepping in for injured Maverick Viñales. The German rider joins Red Bull KTM Tech3 for the weekend as Viñales continues his recovery from shoulder surgery.
German rider Jonas Folger will return to MotoGP to race at Le Mans this weekend. He will ride for the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team and replace Maverick Viñales, who is still recovering from injury.
Viñales recently had surgery on his left shoulder. He is getting better, but he is not yet strong enough to race. The French Grand Prix has come too soon for him, so he has decided to take more time to fully recover.
Because of this, the team needed another rider. They chose Jonas Folger, who already knows the team very well. He raced with Tech3 in the past and has experience in MotoGP. This makes him a safe and sensible choice for such an important race.
Folger is 32 years old and has not been racing regularly in MotoGP in recent years. However, he has stayed close to the sport as a test and development rider for KTM. This means he understands the bike and the team’s way of working, which should help him adapt quickly.
In the Tech3 garage at Le Mans, Folger will ride alongside Enea Bastianini. The team wants to have two bikes on the grid, and Folger’s return allows them to do this.
This will be a big challenge for Folger. He has not raced full-time for a while, and MotoGP is very fast and demanding. He will need to learn quickly and get used to the bike again during the race weekend. Still, his past experience and knowledge of the team give him a good chance to perform well.
For Viñales, the most important thing now is his health. He wants to come back only when he is fully fit, so he can ride at his best level. His team supports this decision, even if it means missing another race.
The French Grand Prix at Le Mans will now be an interesting moment for both riders: a comeback opportunity for Folger and a careful recovery period for Viñales.
