After a successful test at Misano, Aprilia Racing has confirmed that Jorge Martin is ready to return to racing at the Czech Republic Grand Prix.

This was Martin’s first time back on the Aprilia RS-GP25 since his crash at the Qatar Grand Prix in April. He completed 64 laps at Misano without any problems. Now, the reigning MotoGP World Champion is set to travel to the Automotodrom Brno next week. If he passes a medical check on Thursday, July 17, he will officially rejoin the MotoGP grid for the first time in nearly three months.

Martin has been away from MotoGP for a long time due to injuries. During the test at Misano, he rode in both the morning and afternoon sessions, marking his first time on the race bike since suffering a collapsed lung and several broken ribs in the Qatar crash. Including his pre-season injuries, Martin has missed 10 out of the first 11 races of the 2025 season.

According to Aprilia, Martin’s test day was focused on helping him get comfortable again on the RS-GP25. Under the new MotoGP rule for injured riders, he was allowed to use three sets of tires during the session, a regulation introduced thanks to Aprilia’s efforts to support riders coming back from long-term injury.

One of the key goals of the test was to adjust Martin’s riding position, as he hasn’t had much time on the Aprilia bike yet. He completed 29 laps before lunch, and followed it with another full session in the afternoon. Martin reported no major issues and said he felt positive on the bike.

He expressed his joy about being back, saying in Aprilia press release: “Being able to ride again after everything that’s happened, more than 20 broken bones,  makes me really happy. Just being back on the MotoGP bike means a lot to me.”

Martin also confirmed during an interview that his goal is to return at Brno: “Now I have one week to train and get ready. I’ll work hard physically and also on the bike to be well prepared. I haven’t raced at Brno in years, so there’s some uncertainty, but I think we can do well.”

Although the test went well and Martin felt strong, both he and Aprilia agreed that his full race return will happen at the Czech GP, not earlier.

MotoGP medical director Dr. Ángel Charte had cleared Martin for testing but did not approve him to race at the German Grand Prix. The Sachsenring circuit, with its tight corners and heavy braking zones, was not considered ideal for someone coming back from such serious injuries.

Now, with the Misano test completed and confidence regained, Martin is fully focused on making a strong comeback at Brno.
