Luca Marini has been taken to the hospital after a serious crash while testing for the Suzuka 8-Hour race in Japan. He was riding Honda's CBR1000RR-R SP bike with the factory Honda team.

Marini flew to Japan right after the British Grand Prix. Although his first day on the track went well, things quickly went downhill. During testing on Wednesday, May 28, he crashed badly and suffered multiple injuries.

Doctors found that Marini has a dislocated left hip, torn ligaments in his left knee, broken bones in his chest and left collarbone, and a collapsed lung on the right side. He was quickly taken to the hospital and, fortunately, is now in stable condition.

Honda has said that Marini will remain in Japan until he is healthy enough to travel back home. The team added that they will give him full support during his recovery.

Things are uncertain for Marini, as his contract with Honda ends this year. He mentioned during the British GP that he has been in talks with the team about extending his deal.

For now, however, his injuries will likely prevent him from racing in the upcoming MotoGP weekend at Aragon. Honda may bring in one of their test riders, such as Takaaki Nakagami or Aleix Espargaro, to replace him.
