Free Practice 1 at the 2025 German Grand Prix kicked off the MotoGP weekend with intense action, fast laps, and a few unexpected crashes. Marc Márquez led the session with a commanding performance, while Jack Miller and Marco Bezzecchi kept the pressure on. Despite the short 45-minute format, the session was packed with drama, close lap times, and standout rides across the field, even as some big names were missing from the grid.
The race weekend kicked off with Free Practice 1 for the MotoGP class. As this shorter 45-minute session started, all the riders went on track straight away. And even in Germany, we were missing some riders, but the most recent one was Enea Bastianini, who was diagnosed with appendi
The first lap times started in a range from 1:23s to 1:21s. With 5 minutes in, Johann Zarco was leading the session, with Marc Márquez in second place and Raúl Fernández in third. But Zarco didn’t stay in the lead for long, as Pedro Acosta took over, with Luca Marini in second. And Marc Márquez was the first rider to dip into the 1:20s time range. In second place was Brad Binder, who jumped there, yet no one else was able to reach the 1:20s time range just yet. Overall, both VR46 riders were doing great, and KTM riders Binder and Acosta surprised for now by being near the lead. The times were really close across the rest of the field, as almost everyone was lapping in the 1:21s range.
Meanwhile, Marc continued to improve his time, setting a 1:20.689, still being the only rider in the 1:20s. Francesco Bagnaia was now in third place, right behind Fabio Quartararo in second. Marc improved his time even more. And with 12 minutes in, the majority of the riders went back into the box. But Marco Bezzecchi continued his impressive recent form, and in FP1, for now, he held fifth place.
With 25 minutes left, we had a yellow flag caused by Johann Zarco, who crashed out at Turn 1. The rider started slowly returning to the track. Alex Márquez, who returned after hand surgery, was in 14th place. For now, no position changes were happening. And with 15 minutes left, Fabio Di Giannantonio jumped to second place and joined Marc in the 1:20s time range. Again, the majority of the riders were in the box, leaving only five riders on track.

With 10 minutes left, some riders slowly started returning to the track for their final stint of the session. Johann Zarco jumped to fourth place, and even Alex improved to 10th place. Jack Miller jumped to second place with 5 minutes left. However, Marc was still comfortably in the lead without being seriously threatened by others. Yet Bagnaia, who was once in third place, was now down in eighth. But Maverick Viñales improved his time and moved to fourth place. A surprise came from Miguel Oliveira, who was now in ninth, just behind Bagnaia. And Joan Mir jumped ahead of Bagnaia to take seventh place.
Jack Miller then started a strong lap, and it looked like he could take the lead, but even though he improved, he still missed out by just 0.109 seconds. And with 1 minute left, we had another yellow flag, this time caused by Pedro Acosta, who crashed in Sector 2. One rider who managed to improve in the final moments was Bezzecchi, who jumped to third place.
