Marc Márquez will miss the next two MotoGP rounds after a heavy crash during the sprint race at Le Mans. The Ducati rider suffered a broken foot and now faces surgery, adding another difficult chapter to his injury struggles.
Marc Márquez will miss the French Grand Prix and the Catalan Grand Prix after a serious crash during the sprint race at Le Mans on Saturday.
The Ducati rider suffered a big highside crash near the end of the sprint race. After the accident, he was clearly in pain and could not put weight on his right foot. Medical checks later confirmed that he had broken the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.
Ducati confirmed that Márquez will travel to Madrid for surgery. The operation was already planned because of an ongoing shoulder problem, but the new foot injury means doctors will now perform surgery sooner than expected.
The Spanish rider explained that he had been struggling with pain in his right shoulder for some time. Reports say the issue was linked to a screw from an earlier injury that was affecting a nerve.
Before the crash, the weekend had already been difficult for Márquez. He missed direct entry into Q2 but later produced an excellent lap to reach the front row of the grid. During the sprint race, however, he dropped down the order before crashing heavily on the penultimate lap.
This latest injury is another setback in what has been a very hard few years for the eight-time world champion. Márquez has suffered several major injuries during his MotoGP career, including serious arm and shoulder problems. Despite this, he has continued to fight at the highest level and remains one of the sport’s biggest stars.
At the moment, Márquez is expected to return later this month at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello, although Ducati will wait to see how his recovery progresses after surgery.
Many MotoGP fans have already sent messages of support on social media, hoping to see the champion back on track soon.
