Pierre Gasly has become the first active Formula 1 driver to invest in MotoGP after buying a stake in the KTM Tech3 team ahead of the 2026 season.
The Alpine driver has joined a growing group of investors backing the French-based outfit, marking a rare and notable crossover between Formula 1 and MotoGP.
The move comes as MotoGP enters a new era under Liberty Media, which completed its takeover of the championship in 2025. Liberty Media plans to grow MotoGP using a similar approach to the one that helped Formula 1 reach a much wider global audience after 2017. Gasly’s investment is seen as another positive step in raising the profile of the sport.
KTM Tech3 already has clear links to Formula 1. The team is led by former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner, who is part of the consortium that bought the team last year. Although ownership has changed, the team continues to operate from its long-standing base in Bormes-les-Mimosas in France, with a focus on stability and gradual growth.
Gasly has invested through his Trail Slam fund and is joined by US-based investors including David Blitzer and Main Street Advisors. Blitzer is a major figure in global sport, holding stakes across all five major American sports leagues, while Main Street Advisors is active in sport and entertainment investments. Several other investors have also joined the group, though the exact breakdown of shares has not been disclosed.
In a statement, Gasly said: “I have a strong conviction in the strength of the Tech3 brand and the long-term growth of the MotoGP sport. I look forward to contributing to further elevating the team’s profile.”
This is also not Gasly’s first investment in sport. He is also a shareholder in French football club FC Versailles, showing a growing interest in building a portfolio beyond his racing career.
