Max Verstappen will swap Formula 1 machinery for GT racing this weekend as he continues preparations for one of the toughest endurance events in the world. The Dutchman is set to compete at the Nürburgring, using the NLS championship round as valuable track time ahead of May’s 24-hour race.
Max Verstappen is set for a different kind of race weekend, heading to Germany to take part in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS). The Red Bull driver will use the event as a key step in his build-up to the iconic Nürburgring 24 Hours, scheduled for 16–17 May.
Rather than driving a single-seater, Verstappen will get behind the wheel of a Mercedes GT3 car, sharing driving duties with a strong line-up that includes Lucas Auer, Jules Gounon, and Dani Juncadella. The outing offers not only additional seat time but also a chance to fine-tune cooperation within the team ahead of the endurance classic.
The Nürburgring Nordschleife presents a completely different challenge compared to Formula 1 circuits. Its length, constantly changing conditions, and unforgiving layout make it one of the most demanding tracks in motorsport. For Verstappen, the NLS race provides an ideal opportunity to adapt to traffic management, multi-class racing, and long-distance strategy: all crucial elements for success in a 24-hour event.
Track action begins early on Saturday, with qualifying scheduled for 08:30 local time. The four-hour race will follow at 12:00, offering a competitive environment that closely mirrors the intensity of endurance racing.
With the 24-hour race fast approaching, this weekend’s appearance marks an important milestone in Verstappen’s preparations, as he looks to expand his experience beyond Formula 1 and take on one of racing’s ultimate challenges. You can follow the action at the Nürburgring live here.
