Williams has reportedly joined Aston Martin in opening talks with Max Verstappen’s long-time Red Bull race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase.
The British-Italian engineer has become one of the most talked-about figures in the Formula 1 paddock as interest in his future continues to grow. According to The Race, Aston Martin made an approach over the weekend, with Lambiase linked to a senior management role at the Silverstone-based team. That position could eventually lead to him becoming team principal or even CEO. However, Autosport now reports that Williams is also pushing hard to secure his signature after a strong and encouraging 2025 season.
Broadcaster Radiobox adds that Lambiase was close to agreeing a deal with Williams before Christmas. Talks with Aston Martin are said to have slowed that process, setting up a direct battle between the two midfield rivals. Both teams see Lambiase as a key figure who could help shape their long-term future.
Aston Martin may hold a slight advantage. Financial backing is unlikely to be an issue, and Lambiase is highly rated by Adrian Newey, who worked closely with him at Red Bull. There is also a personal link to the team, as Lambiase previously worked for Jordan, Midland, Spyker and Force India — all predecessors of Aston Martin.
At the same time, Red Bull is believed to be considering a revised role for Lambiase that would reduce his trackside duties. He missed several races last season for personal reasons, and speculation about his future grew after an emotional moment at the final race in Abu Dhabi.
